The Fresno/Clovis CROP Hunger Walk will start and end at the Islamic Cultural Center (2111 E. Nees Ave., Fresno, on Sunday, October 19th, 2008. Registration for participants opens at 1:00 p.m. Water will be provided on the route. The route is about 3 miles in the Northeast Fresno area. A 1.5 mile route is available for those who prefer a shorter walk.

The Fresno/Clovis area CROP Hunger Walk is an interfaith effort raising funds to help feed the hungry at home - here in the Fresno/Clovis area - and, through Church World Service, to help alleviate hunger around the world. Because millions of people must walk for food, water, shelter, education and medical help, we choose to "Walk Because They Walk".
Wheelchairs, strollers, wagons and dogs on leashes are welcome!

People of all faiths, cultures, nationalities and ethnicities are affected. Here in the Fresno/Clovis area, CROP Hunger Walk is supported by Christians, Jews, Muslims and Buddhists, with some 34 churches, synagogues, temples and other organizations participating. All religious, secular and civic organizations are encouraged to join in.

25% of all proceeds stay here in our own community.
Since 1993 over $50,000.00 in sponsor donations have remained here in Fresno County. Fourteen different local hunger fighting and emergency service agencies have been there beneficiaries of these funds raised by CROP Walk Walkers and their sponsors.
These beneficiaries have included: All About Care, Catholic Charities, Community Food Bank, Craycroft Youth Center, Evangel Home, Food Not Bombs, Fresno Rescue Mission, Marjaree Mason Center, Poverello House, Salvation Aremy Clovis and Fresno, The Sanctuary and WestCare.

In 2007, the following local agency received over $6,000 from CROP WALK: The Community Food Bank
For 2008 the local recipient will be:
The Community Food Bank - providing food to over 200 food distribution sites in Fresno, Madera and Kings counties.
Food for the Hungry Worldwide:
Over the past several years, in addition to our own United States, some 80 countries have been the recipients of CROP Hunger Walk funds distributed through Church World Service: www.churchworldservice.org.
Besides feeding the hungry, monies are used to dig or drill wells, or lay pipe to deliver fresh water to people in remonte areas of the globe, to provide emergency supplies (tents, blankets, mosquito netting, as well as food, water, and medical supplies) in disaster areas, provide support of de-mining operations informer war zones, assist in resettlement of refugees, and provide educational materials for children and adults including nutrition, farming and HIV/AIDS prevention information.
